There are some classics that never go out of style and in the case of home design, the modern farmhouse look continues to be here to stay. In this recent kitchen remodel for homeowners in Bordentown, New Jersey, we were able to borrow space from a breakfast nook and secluded dining room and create an open kitchen and dining space in just 3 months’ time.

Originally this quaint kitchen had all the necessary appliances for comfortable living but lacked countertop surfaces and a cohesive eating space. The clients looked to Rasinski Construction to remodel the existing floorplan to create one open space that easily flowed from house entrance to kitchen cooking to eating and entertaining. This included removing some walls completely and trimming another down to a half wall height.

Like most kitchen remodels, after the approved design phase, the Rasinski Construction demo team came in to create a blank slate down to the studs. To help gain as much width as possible in this long style kitchen, 1 5/8” deep metal studs were used for framing. Closed cell spray foam was then added to help seal everything and provide greater insulating value with less depth.

At the end of each workday, all waste material was collected into large garbage cans and the space was vacuumed to clean up excess debris.

Once the internal structure was set, we were able to proceed forward adding seamless tile flooring throughout the remodeled rooms and installing updated cabinetry and brand-new appliances. A previously solid wall was transformed into a half wall to allow for additional countertop seating at the end of this kitchen.

Luckily, we were able to save the original kitchen and breakfast nook windows allowing ample sunlight to fill the kitchen.

With this kitchen remodel, new lighting solutions were installed, including recessed lights, a hanging pendant over the sink and a custom-made decorative hood with a fan and light overhead. The spaciousness of this new layout also allowed the opportunity to add floating shelves, truly lending itself to the modern farmhouse look.
